New for Terra Australis in 2011 is the introduction of “the race of TRUTH”
What stage race is complete without one? With each team racing individually against the clock the time trail can (and often does) decide the overall winner of the biggest stage races in cycling.
So we thought it was about time to bring this element into the Terra Australis for 2011.
The course starts out into some tight and undulating singletrack that follows Morses Creek upstream towards Wandiligong. 3km’s in and the course U-turns back down the other side of the creek. Sections of fire trail are interspersed with singletrack for 5km’s then its all open fire road to the 13km mark where riders will dive into the Mystic Pines for a 4.2Km hoot in some flowing singletrack in the shady Pine Planation. From here it’s a 3 km dash to the finish line as every second counts in a time trial.
With the race starting and finishing at 319mts ASL and the highest point at 501mts the climbers in the field will be put under pressure from the technicians in the singletrack. Question is, will it be enough to challenge after 3 days in the mountains.
With a short day on the bike, it’s also a great opportunity to spend some quality downtime in Bright.
There is plenty to do or you can do nothing at all.
