Hopefully you have had enough time to rest and recover after the epic day 5 stage. Day 6 is another tough day in the saddle that will test you physically..
There is a short Neutral section to start the day and an opportunity to bid farewell to the friendly Bright locals. Once the flag drops it’s immediately into climbing mode with a 14km climb over the top of Mount Porepunkah. Starting off steeply there is a short reprieve where you can roll out the legs before settling into a tempo for the remainder of the climb. Once you are over the top you can expect a fast and smooth descent. In the big dog this will have tears in your eyes as the wind rushes past. Through this middle section of the course there are some easy kms on the bitumen thanks to the damage caused to the trail we would nornally use through here so if you need to, slip into cruise mode and save your legs for the climbs that lay ahead.
After the second feed station, just off the bitumen, the cruising is over as a tough long climb awaits. A steep, rough pinch of around 1.3km just after the feed station will most likely see even the strongest rider dismount for bit of a walk. This section finishes on some nicely graded contoured fire trail that will steadily gain you some altitude before the final descent and run into Beechworth. If you need some motivation to push on through here, then the Beechworth Brewery awaits if you are home early enough.
