They say what comes up must come down and this Day 2 ride sums that up perfectly. Starting at an elevation of 1550m in the Falls Creek Village and finishing many kilometres later at Dinner Plain Village, also at an altitude of 1550m. You could be forgiven for assuming that the ride is flat but there’d be no challenge in that now would there? After leaving Falls Creek Alpine Village riders once again follow the shores of Rocky Valley Lake out onto the Bogong High Plains. This time though you are heading east via an Aqueduct track built for the Hydro scheme in the 1940’s. Back onto the Tar for a while before descending off the High Plains into the sleepy Bundarra Valley. Riders are teased as they are so close to the cold refreshing beers at the famous Blue Duck Inn but we change direction and head south for Dinner Plain. This is true “Man from Snowy River Country” now as you pass through some of the oldest High Country Sheep and Cattle stations in Victoria. Say G’day as you ride through as the 5th generation land owners will probably be sitting on the porch watching the race go by. After a couple of kilometres of bitumen on the Great Alpine Road, it’s back onto the dirt, a steady but gradual climb over Long and Precipice Plains leads to the unique freehold Alpine Village of Dinner Plain, and the end of Stage 2. Get organised into your accommodation and then get out and soak up the atmosphere of this quaint Village post ride. To soothe those sore muscles you can relax in the Onsen Retreat and Spa with its indoor pool, sauna, spa, gym and outdoor Onsen pool
