Race Information
TERRA AUSTRALIS is a multi day stage MTB race that will take place each year in the North East Victorian Alpine and High Country region of Australia.
The dates for the race are set for March 20 – 26, 2011
PLEASE NOTE: This course information relates specifically to the 2010 Terra Australis. The course will be similar in distance, climbing and days but the actual alignment will be different on certain stages. Due to the fact that large sections of the course will be covered in snow (fingers crossed) for the next four months we cannot test the course until the snow melts. We will upload the final course details post winter.
The race starts in the alpine ski resort of Falls Creek and finishes in Wangaratta 7 days later.
Teams of amateur and pro riders will pedal their way across the rooftop of Victoria and into the luscious alpine valley’s of North East Victoria. It will be a true test of their physical endurance and mental resolve but the sense of personal achievement will last a lifetime. 550+ km’s…..7 days….. 15,000+ mts of ascent later they will gather and celebrate their own personal victory in TERRA AUSTRALIS 2011.
TERRA AUSTRALIS will offer 7 age/gender categories in 2011.
Categories offered are Open Men – Open Women – Open Mixed – Masters (80+) Men – Masters (80+) Mixed - Super Masters (100+) Open Gender and a new category for 2011, Grand Masters (120+) Open Gender.
Riders in the Open categories can be any age but must be over 18 on the start date of the event. For the Age categories, the calculation is based on the total age of both riders. For example, a 35 yo and a 47 yo can team up and register for the 80+ category. This is a new innovation for TERRA AUSTRALIS in 2011. The idea is to blur the edges of the age categories so hopefully it will make it a little easier to find your ideal race partner for 2011.
To complete the event, both riders in each team must remain together at all times during the race. If at any point on the course teammates separate by more than 2 minutes the team may receive a time penalty.
Each stage will start at 8:00am and riders will need to finish by 6:00pm. There will be 2 feeding stations on each stage, which will have fruit, water and other goodies to keep your energy levels up. There will also be some limited mechanical support at the feeding stations in case your trusty steed needs a bit of attention too. A crack first response paramedic team will also be on course with the riders to deal with any medical emergencies and a comprehensive communications network will be the backbone to effective response.
TERRA AUSTRALIS will be an MTB experience of a lifetime. We as organisers of this event understand this all to well. Every aspect of the events planning has revolved around you – the competing athlete. Your satisfaction, safety and above all enjoyment are our primary focus and we promise to deliver an unforgettable MTB experience.
