DINNER PLAIN

Originally known as Rundells Paddock, legend has  it that Dinner Plain was given its name by cattle drovers of last century who stopped for their midday dinner at this glorious spot in the mountains.

Located just 10 kilometres from the panoramic mountain views surrounding Mt Hotham, the village of Dinner Plain is nestled amongst the snowgums just off the Great Alpine Road, and gives today's traveller the choice of outdoor recreation in all seasons.

Dinner Plain

Development of the village commenced in 1986 and features buildings architecturally inspired by the characteristics of the old cattlemen's huts. Built of stone, timber and corrugated iron and often boasting magnificent stone fireplace, each blends in beautifully with the surrounding snow gums and high plains landscape.  The architectural success of Dinner Plain has since led to the development of the Australian Alpine style, which has been adopted as a benchmark by all other alpine resorts in Australia.

Dinner Plain offers visitors a range of accommodation options for singles, couples, families and groups including hotel and lodge accommodation, self-catering apartments and chalets.  Check out the accommodation page for details on how to book accommodation for your Dinner Plain leg of TERRA AUSTRALIS.
