WANGARATTA
Set in North East Victoria’s Alpine Valleys between the Ovens and King Rivers, the Rural City of Wangaratta encompasses the Milawa Gourmet Region, King Valley, Glenrowan, El Dorado and Wangaratta. Famous for its world class wines, excellent gourmet food, spectacular mountains, valleys, rivers and streams, historic links to Ned Kelly and Victoria’s pioneering gold rush.

Wangaratta is a bustling regional centre. The township itself is home to 17,000 people and is surrounded by Victoria's most geographically diverse and scenic region, offering an enviable lifestyle to residents and an attractive destination to visit. The rich agricultural land surrounding Wangaratta yields gourmet produce and world class wines, making the area a paradise for wine and food lovers, with a proliferation of restaurants, cafes and interesting eateries at your doorstep. In particular, chefs in this region are spoilt with the freshest selection of produce and fine wines from which to develop their tempting dishes.
The region also heralds the beginning of the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail and Great Alpine Road. The road is Australia's highest year round accessible sealed road, peaking at 1,825 metres and passes through Victoria's largest national park, the Alpine National Park, which contains 10 of the 11 highest mountains in the State. The 94 kilometre Rail Trail follows the old railway track through spectacular and diverse scenery from Wangaratta to Bright with a loop to Beechworth if desired.
