MECHANICAL SUPPORT
It may be one thing to get your body in physical shape to take on the TERRA AUSTRALIS challenge but without your bike your not going to get far. The course will offer some rough and demanding terrain for you and your bike to negotiate and will be just as tough on your machine as it is on you.Your bike will have to be in “tip top” shape if it is going to get you to the finish line. We recommend that you replace any componentry that may not survive the race. If you have any doubts about the durability of your bike then don’t wait until you get to TERRA AUSTRALIS to fix it, come prepared. If you're not technically minded and use a local bike shop mechanic for most of your regular repairs we recommend you take your bike to them one month prior to TERRA AUSTRALIS. Have them completely inspect and service your bike, tell them about what you are about to embark upon and get their recommendations on what needs to be fixed or replaced.
Part of the support available for you at TERRA AUSTRALIS is mechanical support. We are currently negotiating with leading industry names to supply this service.
On Course Mechanical Support
At each Control-Aid Station there we will be limted mechanical support. Limited mechanics endevour to resolve your bike problems so you can continue to the finish of the stage. Parts supplied will be charged at normal retail prices and labour costs if any are yet to be confirmed. Also to be confirmed is the method of payment for this service. Check back regularly for updates.
At the Finish Line
There will be a fully equipped Tech Zone at the finish area to provide comprehensive and reliable Mechanical Support once you have crossed the finish line. Their services are likely to be in high demand and they will probably be working into the night while you are getting much needed rest and recovery. As with the on course support, parts supplied will be charged at normal retail prices and labour costs are yet to be confirmed.
If you want to fix your own bike then that’s OK. We understand the attachment that some riders get with their bikes. At the finish area we will provide a number of bike stands and pumps for your use. You will need to provide all your own tools to do the repairs so don’t forget to factor that into your luggage requirements if you purchase the transport upgrade.
Bike Wash Station
There will be a bike wash station at the finish area also. We advise you keep your bike clean throughout the race to minimise the chance of any mechanical problems. If you want the Tech Service crew to work on your bike you must clean it first (they will not work on a dirty bike).
