SupportDo you think you will need some help to complete your TERRA AUSTRALIS journey? We think so too!!
We will support you through the whole event to make sure that TERRA AUSTRALIS is the most amazing experience.
Find out more about the kind of support you will get here:
CONTROL / AID STATIONS
On each stage there will be 2 Control-Aid Stations placed at approximately 1/3rd and 2/3rd into each course. If the weather is extremely hot which could happen, we will add a 3rd drink station to provide additional water.
Each Aid Station will be stocked with
- Chilled water
- Chilled Energy drinks
- Selection of fruits
- Snacks
- Energy bars
If you feel you require more nutrition for the ride, we recommend that you carry your own favourite brand of energy bars.
Each rider is responsible for reporting to the Control Point official at each Control Station. This is to ensure we know if any riders are left on the course. If you are not continuing with the stage you should also report this to the Control Point official before getting on the sag wagon.
There will be emergency communication capability with the Race Director and on course Paramedic Teams at each Control Station.
MEDICAL SUPPORT
Risk Management is a fundamental and essential aspect of any event like TERRA AUSTRALIS. At Finish Line Events P/L we take our Risk Management seriously and so do our event partners. Our Risk Management policy has been reviewed and scrutinised by all our Event Partners, MTBA and their insurance underwriters plus Land Managers like Parks Victoria and The Department of Sustainability and Environment.
Integral to our Risk Management is the provision of a First Response Paramedic team that will travel with the riders on course. They will have Emergency communications capability with the Race Director and Emergency Services if needed. Lets hope you never have to meet one of them other than maybe having a relaxing beer at the dining venue after the stages.
There will be a First Aid station at each stage finishing location and all the overnight stopovers have close access to Medial Centres/Hospitals if required.
MECHANICAL SUPPORT
It may be one thing to get your body in physical shape to take on the TERRA AUSTRALIS challenge but without your bike your not going to get far. The course will offer some rough and demanding terrain for you and your bike to negotiate and will be just as tough on your machine as it is on you.
Your bike will have to be in “tip top” shape if it is going to get you to the finish line. We recommend that you replace any componentry that may not survive the race. If you have any doubts about the durability of your bike then don’t wait until you get to TERRA AUSTRALIS to fix it, come prepared. If you're not technically minded and use a local bike shop mechanic for most of your regular repairs we recommend you take your bike to them prior to TERRA AUSTRALIS. Have them completely inspect and service your bike, tell them about what you are about to embark upon and get their recommendations on what needs to be fixed or replaced.
Bicycle Superstorewill be be providing the mechanical support for the event. Their mission is to keep your bike going should you experience a mechanical failure during the race.
They will have qualified mechanics and a comprehensive range of spare parts at the overnight locations. They will endeavour to repair any mechanical problems and have your bike ready for you to start the next day. This service is provided on a "user pays" basis and all parts and labour will be charged for. Credit card is the preferred method of payment. EFTPOS is not available.
At the second feed station Bicycle Superstore will also provide Neutral support to repair minor issues to get you back to the finish line. This service is provided free of charge. If you require any major mechanical work or parts at the second feed station then charges will apply as at the finish line. There will be a range of tools, a track pump and repair stand at the first feed station.
Procedurally, getting your bike attended to will be no different than if you presented to your local bike shop. The mechanics will assess the work to be undertaken, write up a work docket, give you a price and if you agree they will perform the repairs.
On the Saturday during registration the Mechanics will be set up and be available for a complimentary pre-race bike inspection. If you have not had this done before arriving we suggest you have the guy's look over your bike. It is better to discover a potential problem now than in the middle of the Victorian Alps.
Bike Wash Station
There will be a bike wash station at the finish area also. We advise you keep your bike clean throughout the race to minimise the chance of any mechanical problems. If you want the Tech Service crew to work on your bike you must clean it first (they will not work on a dirty bike).
Check the website regularly for updates on the mechanical support we will have available.
PHYSICAL SUPPORT
Maintaining your body throughout the TERRA AUSTRALIS is just as important as maintaining your bike. You will have done the training and preparation so don’t throw it all away buy not looking after yourself.
RECOVERY is the name of the game here. Being able to come back the next day and do it all over again for 7 days in a row. Eating properly to replenish the vital fuel source needed is probably the most important element in your recovery process. We will have expert advice on Nutrition for your preparation and during the event on the website so check the Training & Nutrition pages regularly. The food provided in the catering package will be planned by a qualified sports nutritionist. We will post some menu’s on the food pages when they are available so check back regularly for updates.
First aid will also be available at the finish area for minor issues. Medical centres are available at all overnight stopovers if required.
MORAL SUPPORT
TERRA AUSTRALIS is a fully supported MTB stage race. We can take care of your luggage, your bike, your food and your health……but what about your moral?
Family, friends and partners are all welcome to come along and support you on your quest for glory in TERRA AUSTRALIS. We know you will appreciate a hug or encouraging word from someone after you have completed another long hard day in the saddle.
Additional meal packages and Finale Dinner tickets (subject to price confirmation) will be available for your supporters.
There are many and varied accommodation options for you to choose from in each of the overnight towns, check out the accommodation page for details on accommodation and easy booking options.
The region of North East Victoria is a world-class tourism destination. While you are out on the trail having the experience of a lifetime your supporters can also have a holiday to remember. Check out the host community pages for more info on what your supporters can also experience.
A downloadable spectator guide will be available closer to the event. It will provide travel directions from each start and finish location and spectator vantage points from which to support and encourage the riders. Please note that private support vehicles are not allowed to follow the riders on course.
BIKE SECURITY
There will be a secured bike park at the finish of each stage in which your bike can be safely stored after you have washed and serviced it. The bike park may be uncovered and there will be no access to bikes between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM except for the Tech Service crew.
