24 February, 2009 - Please note that Active.com, the company that handles our online registrations, will be having a scheduled maintenance between 3pm and 5pm on Saturday 28th February and Sunday 1st March, AEST. During this period all registration forms may be unavailable for a short time, possibly as little as 30 minutes, however all maintenance will definitely be completed by 5pm. We are proud to announce that the BICYCLE SUPERSTORE will provide mechanical support for the Innuagural Terra Australis. Every single entrant in Terra Australis is on a mission. The end result of that mission is obvioisly different for the Pro’s and the “weekend warriors”. The commmon tread however is to finish and earn the right to be callled a Terra Australis “finisher”. To achieve your mission you will need to look after your body, look after your mind and look after your bike. No amount of preperation can account for Murphy’s Law and this is where Bicycle Superstore will have you covered.
When we approached Nigel Letty, Managing Director of Bicycle Superstore about providing mechanical support for Terra Australis, he was immediately excited about the prospect. After a few phone calls and emails were swapped the tables had turned. Nigel was telling us how similar events overseas were providing support and what he wanted to do and how he was going to do it. 16 February, 2009 - Bushfire Response
- The Bushfire tragedy in North East Victoria has burnt sections of the Terra Australis course
- Stage 5 is being re-designed
- Stage 6 is being re-aligned to stay out of the bushfire zone
- The inaugural Terra Australis will start on March 29th 2009
The recent bushfire’s in Victoria have been tragic. The loss of life is something we are all still trying to comprehend. The Directors of Finish Line Events would personally like to pass on our condolences to those that have lost loved ones.
Many people in North East Victoria have been affected by the fires with significant loss of personal assets. Some of those most affected had kindly opened their gates to the 2009 Terra Australis Great Southern Land Mountain Bike Epic.
The full impact of the fire on the course is now known. Key aspects of the course have been severely impacted. Stage 5 and 6 are being re-designed and we are working with Parks Victoria, the Department of Sustainability and Environment, the Alpine and Indigo Shires and VicRoads to develop a suitable replacement for stage 5, and a few new tracks for stage 6.
The region has seen three major bushfires in six years and has shown great resilience and commitment to recovering from these natural disasters. Although the North East Victorian fire is no longer burning, the risk of falling trees means the course needs to be re-designed in the affected stages. This is being done very quickly with details released by Monday 23rd February 2009.
